Spiritual uses: Radiata’s refreshing scent calms the spirit, relieves mental stress, and promotes a sense of well-being. It is thought to illuminate patterns in relationships—whether to self, others, work, or the divine — allowing the user to identify unhelpful behaviors that may be interfering with personal growth. Blends well with: Refreshing oils such as Basil, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Ginger, Helichrysum, Lavender, Myrtile, Peppermint, Spearmint, and Tea Tree. History: In Australia, radiata was used alongside Eucalyptus globulus to treat infections, wounds and pain. Now, radiata is the preferred species for aromatherapy because it is gentler to the tissues than Eucalyptus globulus. Many of radiata’s antiseptic and antibacterial benefits were recorded by Jean Valnet, MD, a WWII field medic who turned to radiata oil when he ran out of synthetic antibiotics. Eucalyptus radiata trees have also been planted in tropical and subtropical regions to curb the spread of malaria by drying up the swamps required for breeding by mosquitoes that carry the disease. |
