History: Marjoram has long been cultivated and used in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, and was grown and used in Egypt since at least 3000 BCE. To the ancient Greeks and Romans it symbolized happiness; according to Roman legend, Venus, the goddess of love, gave the plant its scent so that mortals would smell it and recall her beauty. It was believed that if Marjoram grew on a grave it meant that the spirit of the departed had found happiness in the next world. In the Middle Ages, bridal couples wore wreaths of Marjoram to symbolize love. Marjoram also a tasty seasoning, and a popular ingredient in many dishes!
