Aromatherapy Properties: Angelica Essential Oil is a delicate oil extracted from the root of Angelica, a large furry plant with fern-like leaves and many delicate white flowers. The seed oil is a colorless liquid with a fresh, spicy top note. It blends well with patchouli, opopanax, labdanum, clary sage, oakmoss, vetiver, and with citrus oils.

Spiritual Uses: Angelica is primarily used to protect spiritual practitioners from evil forces (hence the name). It is also valued for its healing properties, and was thought by Europeans to be of divine origin. Angelica has a long history of use in various types of exorcisms, and was traditionally used to create powerful psychic/spiritual shields. In Neo-Pagan belief systems, including Wicca, Angelica oil is sometimes sprinkled around the outside of the home for protection.

History: Angelica has long been used around the world for medicinal and spiritual purposes. In Chinese herbal medicine, Angelica, known as Bai Zhi, is second only to Ginseng in its reputation as a general supportive tonic. Angelica leaves and stems were chewed by Renaissance and early modern Europeans to ward of plague and infection. The boiled roots of angelica were applied internally and externally to wounds by the Aleut people in Alaska to speed the healing process.
