Aroma: Most people know this aroma through Earl Grey tea, which is flavored with Bergamot. It is a fruity citrus oil with a delicately spicy, zesty top note.

Energetic Properties: Brightening, positive, lifting.

Aromatherapy Properties: A light greenish-yellow liquid with a fresh sweet-fruity, slightly spicy-balsamic undertone. It blends well with lavender, orange blossom, jasmine, cypress, geranium, lemon, chamomile, juniper, coriander, and violet leaf. Smelling pure Bergamot oil is one of the great joys of aromatherapy. Its scent is so fresh, and clear, and elevating.

History: Now believed to be a hybrid of Sweet lemon and Bitter orange, Bergamot is cultivated mainly in the province of Reggio di Calabria in Italy. (Varieties cultivated elsewhere in the world are widely believed to be inferior). Bergamot is one of the most well-known scents in the world, and is used in a wide variety of applications. Scientific studies have shown that active ingredients in Bergamot may have neuroprotective properties, and may be able to reduce lung inflammation in individuals with Cystic fibrosis.
