Aromatherapy Properties: A colorless or pale yellowy-green liquid with a sweet, nutty-herbaceous scent. It blends well with juniper, lavender, coriander, cardamom seed, geranium, sandalwood, cedarwood, pine, labdanum, jasmine, frankincense, bergamot and other citrus oils.

Spiritual Uses: The euphoric properties of Clary sage make it a potent ingredient in magick to lift the spirit. Clary sage is also useful in potentiating the link between the conscious and unconscious mind, as well as in helping to release stagnant emotions.

Blends well with: Jasmine or Sandalwood for a relaxing, sensual scent. To help elevate mood, blend with citrus oils, such as Bergamot and Lemon, or Cedarwood.

History: Descriptions of the medicinal use of Clary sage date back to the writings of Theophrastus (4th century BCE), Dioscorides (1st century CE), and Pliny the Elder (1st century CE). It was particularly popular during the Middle Ages, when it  was known as “clear eye,” “Oculus Christi” (the eyes of Christ), and “muscatel sage,” due to its resemblance to muscatel wine grape vines. In modern times, it is used to enhance the flavor of commercial tobacco.
